STATEMENT FROM CITIES FOR ACTION ON DHS RESCISSION OF DAPA AND EXPANDED DACA

The following statement can be attributed to Cities for Action:

“Cities for Action, a coalition of over 150 mayors and county leaders that advocates for policies to welcome and embrace our foreign-born residents, expresses deep disappointment in the Trump Administration’s abandonment of DAPA and expanded DACA. Since the announcement of these executive orders in late 2014, cities across the country brought crucial local perspectives to the case by filing amicus briefs in every stage of the Texas v. US litigation. 118 mayors, county executives, and localities signed on to the amicus brief submitted to the Supreme Court in June 2016 – which clearly demonstrates the broad support this program has.

While the Administration has not rescinded the original DACA program, we call on the Administration to commit to continue DACA and to support legislation to provide immigrants with permanent relief. Immigrant families deserve to have the peace of mind to stay in the country they call home.”
