CITIES FOR ACTION ISSUES STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF THE AMERICAN DREAM & PROMISE ACT

Cities for Action (C4A) issued the following statement in response to U.S. Representatives Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), Nydia Velázquez (D-NY), and Yvette Clarke (D-NY) introducing the American Dream & Promise Act.

Cities and counties across the country know that immigrants make us stronger, from the key role they play in local economies to the resiliency and spirit they bring to our communities. Some of our longest-standing community members – Dreamers and TPS and DED holders – have made tremendous contributions, especially during the pandemic with many serving in essential roles. They deserve a permanent place in the country they call home.

With the re-introduction of the American Dream & Promise Act, Congress now has the chance to deliver justice and stability for Dreamers, TPS holders, and DED recipients. However, this long-overdue legislative solution must not exclude those within our communities who have been harmed by a broken legal system that disproportionately targets Black and brown people. The American Dream & Promise Act is an important first step, and we urge Congress to provide a broad pathway to citizenship that is truly inclusive.
