STATEMENT FROM CITIES FOR ACTION ON THE RESOLUTION TO REPEAL ELEMENTS OF THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION REFORM AND IMMIGRANT RESPONSIBILITY ACT OF 1996 AND THE ANTITERRORISM AND EFFECTIVE DEATH PENALTY ACT OF 1996
The following statement can be attributed to Cities for Action:
"As a coalition of mayors across the nation advancing immigrant inclusion, we support the congressional resolution to address elements of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act and the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 that have had a devastating impact on immigrant families and communities. It has been twenty years since these destructive laws have been in place. It is long overdue for our lawmakers to repair these immigration policies with fairness and justice."
Cities for Action is a national advocacy coalition leading the effort to defend and implement President Obama’s executive action on immigration, and to advance immigration reform by shaping the national debate and welcoming new immigrants. Over 100 cities and counties in Cities for Action -- representing 55 million people across the country – have filed four friend-of-the-court briefs at each stage in the litigation arguing that President’s executive action on immigration should move forward without delay.
