“Cities for Action (C4A) condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and acts of violence and aggression currently unfolding in the country. We are outraged by the targeting and killing of civilians and the growing humanitarian crisis as countless Ukrainians seek refuge in neighboring countries. These individuals include Black and brown migrants who historically have faced mistreatment by immigration enforcement systems. We applaud the Biden administration’s decision to designate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ukraine, and we encourage the Administration to extend all available humanitarian protections, such as Special Student Relief (SSR) and humanitarian parole, for Ukrainians currently in the U.S. who are unable to return home, as well as those fleeing the violence in Ukraine. We also applaud the recent designation and re-designation of Sudan and South Sudan for TPS. As such, we encourage the Biden administration to continue to use TPS as a life-saving tool to protect nationals of other countries who are also experiencing the negative impacts of armed conflict or environmental disasters.

Cities for Action stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, our C4A member localities with large Ukrainian communities, and over 1 million individuals of Ukrainian descent in the United States who have contributed significantly to American society.”
