CITIES FOR ACTION ISSUES STATEMENT ON THE CITIZENSHIP FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS ACT

Cities for Action (C4A) issued the following statement in anticipation of the House of Representatives' upcoming vote on the Citizenship for Essential Workers Act.

Cities and counties have long understood that immigrants and refugees make our communities stronger. This has never been truer than during the pandemic, when nearly 3 out of 4 undocumented workers has been in an essential role to support us all. A pathway to citizenship is necessary to properly recognize their contributions and to ensure a just and equitable recovery. We urge Congress to include permanent protections for all essential workers in the next COVID-19 recovery package and welcome the Citizenship for Essential Workers Act as a key first step in the fight to build a truly just and humane immigration system for all.
