Cities for Action welcomes Trump Administration's decision to extend TPS for Yemen, criticizes the Administration's failure to re-designate the country for TPS
Although we are glad that the Trump Administration issued a full 18-month extension of Temporary Protected Status for Yemen, Cities for Action is disappointed that the Department of Homeland Security failed to also re-designate Temporary Protected Status for the country. While current beneficiaries of Yemeni TPS will be able to continue receiving humanitarian protections under TPS, this decision effectively bars recently-arrived Yemeni nationals from those same protections. Last week, Cities for Action sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State calling for both an extension and a re-designation, and Cities for Action leaders will continue to advocate for federal immigration policies that make our communities stronger and safer.
