STATEMENT FROM CITIES FOR ACTION ON HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES VOTING TO FILE AN AMICUS BRIEF IN UNITED STATES V. TEXAS

Today, in response to the House of Representatives voting to file an amicus brief opposing President Obama's executive action on immigration Cities For Action issued the following statement.

“The vote by the House of Representatives to file an amicus brief opposing the President's executive action on immigration is out of step with historical precedent and the view of the majority of Americans who support immigration reform. Delayed implementation of the President's executive action threatens the economic and security interests of our cities. The President’s immigration actions seek justice for millions of immigrant families, while generating $800 million annually in economic benefits to state and local governments and help reduce the deficit by a projected $820 billion over the next two decades. It’s time for Speaker Ryan and the House of Representatives to support common sense immigration reforms instead of playing politics on issues of public policy."
